Bipartisan Housing Victory: MBA Scores Major Legislative Win – 05/26/2026 Weekly Mortgage update Segment

Hi, I’m Adam DeSanctis with the Mortgage Minute, the latest news from the Mortgage Bankers Association. Last week, the House delivered a major bipartisan win on housing affordability and a significant advocacy victory for MBA and its members. The House passed an amended version of the 21st Century Road to Housing Act by an overwhelming three hundred and ninety-six to thirteen vote after sustained engagement from MBA, industry partners, and Mortgage Action Alliance advocates across the country. The revised House package addressed several key concerns MBA raised with the Senate-passed bill. Lawmakers improved provisions related to FHA multifamily loan limits and single family disclosure requirements, preserved important USDA Rural Housing Service reforms, codified the GSE’s ROV process without increasing lender liability, and removed a problematic expansion of the first look servicing requirement. The bill also addressed concerns tied to build-to-rent properties and institutional investor provisions. This outcome reflects weeks of direct advocacy by MBA’s Legislative and Political Affairs team, reinforced by multiple industry letters and strong grassroots engagement. MBA will continue working closely with Senate leaders and the Trump administration to advance the strongest possible housing package to President Trump’s desk in the weeks ahead. That’s it for this week. Thank you for listening.
